While there are still hints of nightlife in downtown Orlando, a lot of the action has shifted north to Orlando’s Mills/50 District, especially with the 40 & under crowd. There are actual retail establishments, restaurants, bars…..and clubs. One of the most-impressive clubs in the district is Alfie’s HiFi.As it approaches 3 years of age, it still draws a queue outside waiting to get inside. The bar is located in their front room while the dance floor and seating areas are in the back room. Arriving back there, even at this early hour, we walked into this.If you take DJ Romano Arcaini (D/USA)…..And mix him together with DJ Jason Leva (USA)…..You get DJ duo Latenight Society (USA).All the music at Alfie’s HiFi is played off vinyl. The club provides several shelves of record albums but for the most part the DJ’s bring their own crates, old-school style! We only know Latenight Society as a House duo but when we arrived Romano was spinning “Let’s Talk About Sex” and “Pump Up The Volume”.Even at this early hour, they had the dance floor jammed!Going 80’s on us with Pet Shop Boys (GB) “West End Girls” and WHAM! (GB) “Everything She Wants”.Always a great vibe at Alfie’s HiFi and a good time was had by all.Moving south along Mills Avenue, we came to Will’s Pub.The bar is located in the front room and we walked into this. The music takes place in the side room but only a handful on the dance floor when we arrived at this early hour.On stage in the booth we found DJ Smilin’ Dan (USA).The music varies at Will’s Pub depending on the DJ and last night the music was Indie. The songs were accompanied by original music videos. It was fascinating to see some we’ve not experienced in decades such as The Killers “Somebody Told Me”. Good stuff. A good time was had by all.Continuing south along Mills, Grumpys Underground. We walked into this.In the booth, DJ Freeda Sol (USA).House music at Grumpys! Who knew?Best dive bar in the District.DJ had the club bouncing. They have a full liquor bar at Grumpys and all the spots were taken. We ran into several people we know from the music scene. And then at midnight, there she was, the headliner…..DJ Darcii Darka (USA).One of Florida’s top Drum & Bass DJ’s, she would migrate the show over to mostly Liquid DnB.Dance floor stayed active. A good time was had by all.Moving back north, time for one more stop. Located on Virginia Drive just west of Mills, Grape & The Grain. The music takes place outside on their covered rear patio and we walked outside to this.Just when we think we’ve met every DJ in Orlando, we meet a new one: DJ Silkia (USA)She was delivering a wonderful House set.And she had the dance floor moving at high speeds.A decade ago, DJ Wilson Santos’ (USA) club Vinyl Arts Bar was a top destination in Orlando for House music where both local and international DJ’s played. We still miss VAB.Great vibe last night on the patio.Everywhere we went last night, a good time was had by all.
