Club Reports: Good Times, Morse Code, Barbarella @ The Axe Trap

It was great to be back in O-Town after that quick trip to Cancun. Last night we visited venues in the near north suburbs beginning in Maitland at Good Times Bar & Grill. It’s located in a strip shopping center just south of Maitland Boulevard (SR414) along Keller Road.
We opened the door and walked into this.
Dance floor was absolutely packed.
Live Bands typically play at Good Times and last night it was Signal 20 (USA). Their bio refers to “high energy 80’s & 90’s hits.”
Indeed, we heard “Don’t You (Forget About Me)” and “Footloose” from the 80’s and Semi-Charmed Life from the 90’s. They also played some 70’s classics during our visit such as “Play That Funky Music White Boy” and “Get Down Tonight”.
The crowd skews older at Good Times. Orlando Weekly once reported that it gets more-crowded at predecessor club Fredsters on weekends when Social Security checks drop. In a way, this venue has become the replacement for the old Why Not Lounge in the Holiday Inn-Altamonte Springs.
One of our favorite bands Switch (USA) goes “back to the 80’s” here on Friday, October 23rd while DJ Lavidicus (USA) brings his Goth night “Abyss” here on first Fridays including November 6th.
Good Times has a shiny disco ball over the dance floor so you know they’re legit.
Multiple bars, good drink prices and free parking make this the best nightlife destination in Maitland. Come check it out. You can find the entire band schedule HERE. A good time was had by all.
We headed next to downtown Winter Park. For the most part DTWP stacks up all their chairs and rolls up their sidewalks after 10PM, even on weekend nights.
Fret not because Morse Code is not far away.
We opened the door and walked into this. The “Boogie Woogie Birthday Gala” for Vint Soul was in -progress!
We arrived to find DJ Johnnie Sebastian (USA) in the booth.
The music was Disco/Nu-Disco.
Dance floor had a bit of activity taking place.
We ran into so many peeps from the local music scene. Some were new but most we knew.
A little after 11PM DJ Mighty Shari (USA) took over the controls.
She would continue with Nu-Disco.
Team photo of all the DJ’s that played/would play last night including Vint Soul, Mighty Shari, Scot Marc and Johnnie Sebastian.

A good time was had by all.
Just east of I-4 on Lee Road (SR423) in Winter Park is The Axe Trap.
On Saturday nights they lock-up the axes and the building becomes home to Barbarella.
We opened the door and walked into this.
Just as it should be on a Saturday night, DJ Indie John (USA) in the booth.
The music all 80’s New Wave and Alternative.
Spotted at the bar.
Club wasn’t packed but it was crowded.
We heard some Oingo Boingo (USA), we heard some Billy Idol (GB), we heard some Adam Ant (GB).
Barbarella has a shiny disco ball over the dance floor so you know they’re legit.
We heard The Cult (GB), we heard The Smiths (GB). We heard some Erasure (GB) too. Most of the music at Barbarella comes with accompanying original music videos.
“These boots are made for walkin’. And that’s just what they’ll do. One of these days these boots are gonna walk all over you”. Nancy Sinatra (USA).
Yowsah, Yowsah, Yowsah!
Always fun music and fun times at Barbarella.
A good time was had by all.
