By now you know that if we’re traveling, we like to share entertainment choices in the various cities we’re in or the ships we’re on. This is the RIU Caribe resort in Cancun, our home-away-from-home during this quick trip to Mexico. Based in Spain, RIU has dozens of hotels and resorts around the world including at least 6 here in Cancun. The view down onto at least a half-dozen pools and the Caribbean Sea.During the day, the hotel’s Entertainment Team provide games, line dances and more. The first couple hours the music was Salsa, Bachata and Reggaeton. Later it became mostly Disco and Top 40 hits. No one dancing on dry land but a whole bunch dancing in the water! The resort is all-inclusive meaning all the food and drink including alcohol is included. Not only does the mini fridge in the room come stocked with bottled water, canned beers and soft drinks, this dispenser on the wall comes with gin, vodka, rum and tequila! And it’s all included. The RIU Caribe is party central with a Jungle Party on Tuesday nights, a White Party on Wednesday nights, a Pink Party on Friday nights and a Neon Party on Saturday nights. Guests of other RIU properties may attend and their hotels offer free shuttles to this hotel. We were here specifically for their famous White Party. We thought their parties take place down on the pool deck but no, they actually take place in the purpose-built facility along the edge of the property. With much-anticipation, we entered the RIU Party complex. We walked into THIS!With the DJ booth on the far side of this pool.Where we found resident DJ Oscar Hernandez (MEX) playing what would end up being a wonderful night of mostly EDM.The club’s animation team did a number of dances from the stage. You can never go wrong with Go Go girls. You can never go wrong with Go Go boys. They tried to coax more people onto the dance floor. They finally got some participation with a conga line which wrapped around the pool.Once it circled back, the crowd remained on the floor in front of the DJ booth. This was a night of pure House and EDM. We heard “Summertime Sadness”, we heard “Stephanie”, we heard “9PM Till I Come” and “In De Ghetto”. The venue has one large shiny disco ball and numerous smaller ones so you know they’re legit.Iowa was in the house! We expected more Americans here but we met visitors from Brazil, Chile, Germany, Canada, the UK and Netherlands too.Tennessee was represented too!Not everyone remained on the pool deck.Foam party in progress! Most everyone dressed in the requisite white.Of course, not everyone got the memo. There was a 70’s Disco segment too where we heard songs such as “September”, “Funkytown”, “Boogie Wonderland” and “Stayin’ Alive”.Even older Top 40 songs such as “Black or White” and “Grease” and 80’s songs such as “Don’t You Want Me” amd “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” were remixed into EDM songs. Of course we’ve attended dozens of White Parties on cruise ships but the music is always meh as they try to cater to so many musical tastes. That was not the case here as the peeps wanted electronic dance music and that’s what the DJ delivered!A good time was had by all.
