The Axe Trap is located on Lee Road in north suburban Winter Park, just east of I-4. It’s thee place to go to throw some axes but forget about that on Saturday nights as it becomes dance club Barbarella. We arrived around 10PM this visit and activity was just picking-up. We walked into this.Just as it should be on Saturday night, DJ Indie John (USA) in the booth. The music all 80’s New Wave and Alternative. We’ve been following Indie John and Barbarella/Independent Bar since 2009 shortly after Pleasure Island closed and we began going downtown. (Photo from the Blog archives taken in 2011.)Those great 80’s songs haven’t changed; everyone still dancing and singing out loud last night to songs by New Order (GB), A Flock of Seagulls (GB), Human League (GB), Sinéad O’Connor (IRL)…..…..and Devo (USA) and Deee Lite (USA) and Duran Duran (GB).All that music last night was accompanied by original music videos.Barbarella has a shiny disco ball over the dance floor so you know they’re legit.Spotted in the booth: DJ Rob Bates (USA). He will be spinning here next Saturday night.Dance floor activity usually picks-up around 11PM and it can get crowded out there.A good time was had by all.We try not to go to the same venues on back-to-back weekends (let alone on back-to-back nights) so that you can see all the nightclub options out there. But then you have venues like Iron Cow that consistently have top international, national and local DJ’s playing and it’s hard to stay away. When we heard last night “Discoteria” was happening, we couldn’t not go.So we leaped a decade from the 80’s at Barbarella to the 70’s at Iron Cow. We walked into this.We found DJ Mighty Shari (USA) in the booth when we first arrived.Playing mostly Disco House.Dance floor wasn’t as packed as Friday night but there were a lot of people in the club.Disco House aka Nu-Disco are newer songs with that 70’s Disco vibe.Party in VIP!Iron Cow has a shiny disco ball over the dance floor so you know they’re legit. We ran into several familiar faces on the dance floor.Around midnight, DJ BOHAV (USA) took over the controls and took everyone to another level.A resident DJ at Good Night John Boy in downtown St. Petersburg, we were seeing him for the first time. His set had the club bouncing. We heard songs like “Boogie Wonderland”, “Stayin’ Alive” and “Gypsy Woman (La Da Dee)”.Checking the Blog archives we realized we haven’t been to Good Night John Boy since 2023 and we need to get back over there. DTSP has an awesome club scene and you can find our 2023 article about it HERE.Great event and a good time was had by all.
