This is Salzburg, Austria, dominated by the Festung Hohensalzburg on the mountain above it as taken from the equally-famous Schloss Marabell Gardens below it. By now you know that if we’re traveling, we like to share entertainment choices in the various cities we’re in or the ships we’re on.The city is bisected by the Salzach River which flows out of the nearby German and Austrian Alps. The word “Salz” in the city name and river name is the German word for “Salt”. Many of those mountains contain vast quantities of salt and have contained still-operating salt mines for hundreds of years. This pedestrian-only bridge over the river is famous for all the locks visitors place on the chain links. The Salzburger Statdfest took place last weekend which we missed but summer is celebrated here and dozens of vendor booths lined the river in the Salzburgkai area this weekend too. There was art, souvenirs, food, etc. I was able to snag a chicken schnitzel on a semmel roll. The boom-boom-boom of electronic dance music could be heard throughout the area and we finally located the source! In the booth we found a Salzburg-favorite, DJ Monokyma (A), on the decks. And all that boom we heard was Techno!Just a small crowd gathered at this early 5PM hour. But the DJ had the dance floor pavement bouncing. The music would run until 10PM with DJ Rova (A) and DJ Olgica (SRB/A) coming up later.A great Techno start to our European visit and a good time was had by all.
