Club Reports: Alfie’s HiFi, Scholars, Luna Bar, Memento Mori @ The Axe Trap

For the past couple years Alfie’s HiFi has been the darling of Orlando nightlife with a half-hour long queue outside and wall-to-wall people inside. That appears to no longer be the case but you should still try to arrive early if you can.
It’s still packed inside though. You enter into their front room which is where their bar is located.
Stepping further aft, we walked into this!
Resident DJ Sean Samaroo (USA) was in the booth delivering the tunes.
No CD’s, no thumb drives, no laptops. Everything at Alfie’s is played off vinyl. You might hear 70’s Disco, you might hear 80’s Funk; it could be nearly anything because it’s whatever the DJ has in store for you. Last night during our visit it was a lot of Classic Dance hits from around the turn of the century. During that era a lot of those hits were Breakbeats.
First time we’ve seen the dance floor clear to allow individual dancers to bust some moves.
First time we’ve seen some line dances here too! So cool.
The club keeps a supply of records on the shelves.
But the DJ’s usually bring their own crates too, old school style.
Spotted on the dance floor!
The ceiling above the dance floor is a large mirror and it’s popular for individuals or groups to take selfies pointing upwards.
Such a great vibe here and a good time was had by all.
We next headed to the downtown core for a second visit to new club Scholars.
Here we found DJ Showtime (USA) in the booth.
The music was mostly Hip Hop and Top 40 during our visit.
There are two rooms in this venue which used to be home to Frosty’s Christmastime Lounge.
Both rooms have bars and seating.
“She stopped drinking Diet Coke, she on that coke diet.”
From a revenue perspective, not sure how this is any better than Frosty’s.
Crossing Magnolia, we came to Luna Bar.
There was a DJ playing Reggaeton to a small crowd downstairs but we headed upstairs.
And when we turned the corner, we walked into this!
And the dance floor got a crowd fairly quick.
In the corner booth, DJ Mighty Shari (USA).
She was spinning some great Disco House.
There are full bars on both levels of Luna.
With drinks last night by Clarissa.
Luna has a shiny disco ball so you know they’re legit.
Such a great vibe in here last night.
Spotted in VIP: Katrina with DJ Johnnie Sebastian (USA).
And he would take over a few minutes later.
A good time was had by all.
Located just east of I-4 on Lee Road in Winter Park, The Axe Trap is an axe-throwing joint that becomes nightclub Barbarella 3.0 on Saturday nights. And typically on the third Saturday night of every month, it becomes home to the über-gothy “Memento Mori”.
We walked into this!
Memento Mori Resident DJ Lavidicus (USA) was in the perch.
At Barbarella you’ll hear mostly 80’s New Wave and Alternative while at Memento Mori you’ll hear the darker genres such as Industrial, Goth, Dark Wave and Power Noise.
Dance floor was pretty jammed.
You can wear your favorite color to Memento Mori, as long as you favorite color is black.
The club has a shiny disco ball so you know they’re legit.
Spotted on the dance floor.
Spotted in VIP.
You can often find DJ Rob Bates (USA) doing the late shift at Barbarella.
Everywhere we went last night, a good time was had by all.
