Club Reports: Manikin Lounge, Oliv Bar, The Robinson, Taco Kat

We began our Friday evening at one of the coolest clubs in central Florida, Manikin Lounge in beautiful downtown Sanford. We were greeted by these two mannequins outside inviting us inside.
We walked into this!
In the booth, the legendary DJ Paul Vaine (USA).
The music, mostly Industrial, Dark Wave and Goth.
Just a few on the dance floor at this early hour but the club typically gets packed.
Much of the music is accompanied by music videos. During our visit last night we heard songs such as “Send Me An Angel”, “Murderous” and “Breathe”.
Out on the rear patio they had a guest DJ last night.
Tampa-based DJ Nemesis (USA) playing older Industrial.
The crowd out here was growing too.
Of course in a club named Manikin Lounge you’re bound to see some mannequins.
They’re scattered throughout the club and each week they seem to be in different places. In the darkness, it’s often difficult to tell the difference between live people and the mannequins!
A good time was had by all.
We next headed into Orlando’s uptown area, home to Oliv Bar.
DJ Shai Town (USA) had just ended her set.
With DJ Crudawg (USA) taking over the controls.
And he played a mostly Electro set.

Oliv Bar has a shiny disco ball so you know they’re legit.
And a full liquor bar too. But we heard the bad news last night. Oliv Bar is permanently closing at the end of May. We’ve always called this “the little bar with the big bar inside” and we’ve attended so many great events here. So sad.
Last night, a good time was had by all.
Next stop was in downtown at The Robinson.
We climbed the stairs to arrive in the main room where we found this!
And the dance floor is over in their “Disco Room” where we walked into this!
In the booth, Friday night resident DJ Chino (USA).
The music mostly EDM hits with a bit of Latin hits.
Dance floor had a crowd.
The Robinson has a ceiling full of shiny disco balls so you know they’re legit.
This is where the beautiful people hang-out downtown.
A good time was had by all.
There’s something wrong with this picture. That restaurant that is all lit-up on the left is called Sonora Tacos while that night club all blacked-out on the right is called Taco Kat. The neon sign company had just one job…..
You enter on the restaurant side and the door host opens this soda machine to grant entry into the club.
We did and walked into this!
On the decks upon our arrival, DJ Sachin Talikot (IND/USA).
The music, mostly House and Tech House.
Shortly after our arrival, shift change.
With DJ Guiliano Lomonte (I/D) taking over.
He would continue with last night’s House/Tech House theme.
Dance floor was absolutely packed.
The music, mostly non-vocal, had the crowd grooving.
You know you’re at the right club when you spot Dina and Babita on the dance floor.
Now under new ownership, we hope to see more events booked into Taco Kat.
Guiliano Lomonte is from southern Italy but he’s now based in Berlin.
Everywhere we went last night, a good time was had by all.
