Last night was opening night for Re(d)tro Nights at Red Coconut Club at Universal CityWalk so of course we had to be there to check it out.Featuring music of the 80’s, 90’s & 00’s, we walked into THIS!Over in the booth, the DJ looked familiar!Yes…..DJ Michael Wycoff (USA).The dance floor was jamming! Those three guys were doing some 90’s boy band moves on the dance floor. While these girls were doing some 90’s twerking to songs such as “I Like To Move It (1994)”, “Whoop There It Is (1993)”, “Back That Azz Up (1998)” and the “Thong Song (1999)”.Dance floor stayed crowded for some Classic Dance hits too such as “What Is Love (1993)” and “Show Me Love (1993)”.The club is crammed with retro features. There are many more but we don’t want to spoil it for you so come check it out for yourself.Even some early Green Velvet (USA) with “Percolator (2010).We know DJ Michael Wycoff from his gigs at Late Night Disney Springs and Atlantic Dance Hall.Heavy D & The Boyz (JA/USA) “Now That We Found Love (1991)”. There are two bars on the ground level but here’s a secret so don’t tell anyone: if you want a drink without waiting in a queue, go to the upstairs bar. (Red)tro Coconut Club has shiny disco balls hanging from above so you know they’re legit.Spotted at the bar: Tiffany from Suite B Lounge downtown with friend.Spotted on the dance floor: DJ Mynd (USA) and Laura.Re(d)tro Nights will be taking place here every Wednesday-Sunday nights through July 18th. Admission is free and the Universal parking garages become free after 6PM. We don’t know who will be DJ’ing here each night but we do know the best of the best, Michael Wycoff, will be here again this Sunday night as well as Thursday, Friday and Saturday night next weekend! An amazing first night, so much great music and a good time was had by all.
