Margaritaville (Grand Turk), 80’s Night, Vortex Nightclub (Jewel Of The Seas)

By now you know that if we’re traveling, we like to share entertainment choices in the various cities we’re in or the ships we’re on. We’re currently on a 7-nt sailing of Royal Caribbean ship Jewel of the Seas with one of our ports being Grand Turk in the British Overseas Territory of Turks & Caicos. During our visit here we dropped-by Margaritaville which is adjacent the cruise port.
It’s a restaurant and pool complex which is popular with cruisers.
The music was originating from that booth near the entrance.
Inside we found DJ Star (TC) playing American Top 40 hits.
A good time was had by all.
Back on the ship, it was 80’s Night and we walked into this!
In the perch, DJ Snedden (IND) was back on duty.
Taking place in the ship’s Atrium on Deck 4 midship, it was a family party with everyone welcome.
It might have been even more-crowded than the 70’s Night earlier in the cruise. We heard 80’s classics such as “Another One Bites The Dust”, “Billiy Jean”, “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” and “Funky Town”.
And OMG, for 70’s Night the Village People (USA) were here live and then for 80’s Night, there was Michael Jackson (USA)! We heard “Beat It” and “Thriller”. Royal Caribbean for the win!
The ship’s animation team were wearing their 80’s best with neon colors, legwarmers and lace during “I’m So Excited” and “Lucky Star”.
There were some “hair band” favorites too such as “You Give Love A Bad Name”, “We’re Not Gonna Take It” and “Your Love”.
Packed to the rafters!
There were also I-Bar New Wave favorites such as “Don’t You Want Me”, “Take On Me” and “Sweet Dreams”. We thought we were in Barbarella for a moment!
A good time was had by all.
We next headed upstairs to the ship’s dance club Vortex, located on Deck 13 midship.
Earlier in the week when we toured the ship, we captured this good view of the DJ booth and dance floor. If this view looks vaguely familiar, it’s because we were on Serenade of the Seas two weeks ago and both ships are basically identical including club Vortex.
As the ship’s only DJ, this guy is everywhere! Atrium, Pool Deck, Dance Club: DJ Snedden (IND).
The club opened at midnight last night and there was a decent early crowd on the floor.
We heard numerous Classic Dance songs such as “Show Me Love”, “Be My Lover” and “What Is Love”.
The lighted bar is a focal point in Vortex.
But while the bar and floor rotated on Serenade of the Seas, the one here on Jewel of the Seas was kaput.
We heard some newer EDM tunes too from Calvin Harris (GB), Icona Pop (S) and Bebe Rexha (AL/GB).
A good time was had by all.
