MMW Day 2: Geishaz @ Liquor Lounge, DJMag Party @ Sagamore, The Get Down @ Kemistry

Our first stop on Day 2 of our Miami Music Week visit was to Liquor Lounge located on Collins Avenue in South Beach.
When we heard that there would be an all female DJ lineup and that the Geishaz would be playing, we knew we had to go!
The event had been going since Noon but we arrived around 5PM and walked into this!
DJ Eva (USA) in the booth when we arrived.
The Los Angeles-based DJ was playing mostly Breaks.
She had the dance floor bouncing.
Big crowd too.
Dance singer Jamie Blue (USA) sang us a number.
Liquor Lounge has not just one but two shiny disco balls so you know they’re legit.
DJ Miss Blue (F) would take over next.
The Rennes-based DJ’s set was more on the Electro side of Breaks.
Dance floor stayed jammed during her turn.
Geishaz on duty!
We ran into numerous peeps we know from the American electronic music scene.
Thank you everyone for your poses.
DJ LadyJ Spinz (USA) took over next.
She would deliver a mostly Drum & Bass set.
At Liquor Lounge, a good time was had by all.
Up the road just a block, the Sagamore Hotel and the next night of the DJMag pool parties was next.
We walked into this!
Arriving around 7:30PM, we caught the tail-end of a b2b set by DJ Prunk (NL) in the foreground and DJ Luuk van Dijk (NL) in the background.
Luuk was the more animated of the two for their House set, lol.
Even though it was early, the pool deck was already absolutely packed!
On Thursday night they had 7 decks lined-up; last night it was 8.
DJMag had a shiny disco ball hanging above so you know they’re legit.
Around 8PM, DJ Hot Since 82 (GB) took over.
He would continue with a mostly House set.
And it somehow got even more packed down there.
During Miami Music Week nearly every South Beach hotel has pool parties going on and nearly every DJ from all over the world is playing somewhere.
At the DJMag party at the Sagamore, a good time was had by all.
With Friday night rush hour now over, we headed to beautiful downtown Fort Lauderdale and megaclub Kemistry for our next party, “The Get Down”.
But first we had to try to talk our way past these two bouncer types.
They had two rooms of music last night beginning with this covered patio area near the entrance.

In the outdoor booth, a tag team set from Orlando DJ’s JROK (USA) and Spark-D (USA).
This would be a night of mostly Breaks both outdoors and inside.
While the outside had fresh air, the inside had air conditioning.
The show had begun at 8PM so our arrival around 10PM meant we missed the first couple sets. DJ J-Break (USA) was on when we arrived.
First time seeing him since “The Get Down” in March, 2024.
Mostly Breaks, of course.
There are 3 bars in Kemistry including this ground floor location in the main room.
Up next in the main room, the Brothers of Funk (USA).
Made up of DJ Storm (USA) and DJ Johnny Dangerously (USA).
Their set more on the Electro breaks side of the genre.
Crowd beginning to build.
And they had those here early bouncing.
Those youngsters probably had no idea what they had gotten themselves into.
Near 11PM, DJ Destroyers (E).
First time ever seeing him play.
A lot of side commentary overheard about how good this Cadiz-based Breaks set was!
Dance floor still had capacity though.
But those already here were bouncing.
Up above in the loge area, another bar was available.
Stepping back outside, the patio had gotten really crowded.
For a b2b set from DJ Robotic (USA) and DJ BBoy Roy (USA).
Always great to see these two south Florida DJ’s playing!
And they absolutely jammed the dance floor!
It was a relatively small area compared to inside but there were people standing or dancing in every nook!
Before midnight another duo took over outside.
DJ Bobby Buzz (USA)
And DJ James Wolfe (USA).
Heather had it going on!
Dance floor so crowded it was difficult to move about the place.
Inside, another Spaniard, DJ Yo Speed (E/GB).
While you can hear Breakbeats at times nearly anywhere, Florida, Great Britain and Spain remain the strongholds.
Inside dance floor was finally gaining popularity.
But just a few were brave enough to make it up to the barrier.
Kemistry has a shiny disco ball so you know they’re legit.
We ran into so many peeps from the electronic music scene. Some were new but most we knew.
The Hoopz airiest team was in the club last night too!
Hoopz & Heels.
Time was flying and soon it was 12:30AM and time for the set everyone was waiting for!
DJ Icey (USA)
His set a mix of new Breaks and old including classics such as “The One” and “Everyday”. First time hearing a Breaks remix of “Stephanie”. “You call her Stephanie? I call her Headphanie.”
Go Go dancer Kriss Reign (USA). They say you can never go wrong with Go Go girls.
Well damn, they were right!
Inside dance floor now jammed!
Packed to the rafters.
Icey had the dance floor bouncing.
Back outside for another tag team set, this time from DJ duo Kuad Soundsystem (USA).
Made up of DJ Jimi The Genius (USA) and DJ Merlin (USA).
Every time we came out here, it was absolutely packed.
Around 1:30AM, DJ Soltek (USA) taking over.
Joined by DJ Sel.6 (USA).
Together deliver an amazing set.
It was 1AM and no one was leaving just yet!
The main room dance floor was still busy too.
First time seeing NYC-based DJ Jubilee (USA).
She too put out an impressive set.
More peeps!
Thank you everyone for your poses!
And then at 2:10AM, there they were!
Electronic duo Spacemen Live (USA).
A rare appearance from the reclusive duo!
Only the second time ever seeing them. The last time was at Firestone Live in March, 2014 as seen in the above photo from the Blog archives.
Large crowd still hanging-on.
Final visit to the Patio stage to see the Geishaz for the second time that day; consisting of DJ Medley (USA), DJ Meaux (USA) and DJ Laura D (USA).
Always a fun night when you’re hanging with Geishaz.
Patio crowd still holding on around 3:30AM.
One last time for the final set in the main room by DJ duo Essential Freaks (USA).
Made up of DJ FACTORe (USA) and DJ Zak Davis (USA).
Their sets often include a lot of popular songs remixed to an EDM beat.
Another amazing party at “The Get Down” and a good time was had by all.
