Back in the day you wouldn’t ask someone if they going to Miami Music Week. No, you’d ask, are you going to Winter Music Conference or simply, are you going to Conference? Following a split with Ultra Music Festival (who actually now owns WMC) and the mandatory pandemic closures in 2020, the importance of WMC deminished and it was no longer the defining event every DJ in the world had to attend. But it’s back, bigger than ever and we were out yesterday for the closing pool party.Taking place on the 16th floor pool deck at the Kimpton Epic Hotel in downtown Miami, we arrived to find a small but growing crowd. The setting was this sea of high rise hotels and condos along the Miami River. The opening set from a DJ trio consisting of Elliot Schooling (GB), Liam Palmer (GB) and DJ Goosey (GB).The music a mix of House and Tech House. They had the pool deck bouncing.Lots of beautiful people, myself included, of course.Over the ledge, a nice view of PortMiami. All the cruise ships had already departed for the day.Big thanks to Winter Music Conference for having us. A good time was had by all.We would have stayed longer to see the headliner DJ Skream (GB) but we had an invitation to the South Beach studios of SiriusXM Satellite Radio so we headed there next.Every year they do something special for Miami Music Week and this year it was a series of live studio shows they titled “Casa Electro”.Last night it was hosted by SiriusXM channel 52 BPM on-air personality Rida Naser as she introduced the guest DJ.DJ Layton Giordani (USA)After a five minute interview in which he thanked DJ’s Adam Beyer (S), Nicole Moudaber (GB) and Green Velvet (USA) for his rise in popularity, he cranked-up his own set.House and EDM.He was decked-out in his signature sleeveless tee over baggy jeans and a pair of Docs.Songs included “Where Have You Been All My Life” and “Everytime I Look Into Your Eyes I See The Future”.“Maybe I’ll Call You Back”First time seeing Layton Giordani live since he played at Wall Street Plaza in downtown Orlando back in January, 2024 as we see in this pic from the Blog archives. He had the invited crowd bouncing.A good time was had by all. Big thanks to Sirius/XM for having us. You can hear Rida’s unique insights into Dance music on BPM channel 52 every Monday-Thursday at 10AM Eastern (14:00 GMT on the SiriusXM app). Since we were already out on South Beach, we walked a few blocks south to the art deco Sagamore Hotel where DJMag was holding their pool parties this year. Coming out the hotel’s back door, we walked into this! And in the booth we found DJ Loco Dice (D) with his set already in progress. The music a mix of House and Tech House. The dance floor was absolutely packed. And he had everyone bouncing.A total of seven decks up there for last night’s lineup which included Ms. Mada (USA) and Harry “Choo Choo” Romero (USA).They say you can never go wrong with Go Go girls.Well damn, they were right!Balconies overlooking the action below was reminiscent of being in Royal Caribbean’s Utopia of the Seas promenade!Up next was DJ Nic Fanciulli (GB).His set was louder and faster than his predecessor.
At all of our MMW Day 1 events we attended last night, a good time was had by all. Big thanks to Johnny Gamez for having us.
