It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Universal Studios in Orlando and the first day of their annual Mardi Gras celebrations. And also the first night of this year’s Mardi Gras concert series. Besides last night, the only other DJ’s performing this year include a DJ set from Rupaul (USA) on February 28th and DJ Zedd (D) on March 15th. There is no extra charge for the concerts but you do need a park ticket or annual pass.If you’ve never been, the concerts take place at the Music Plaza Stage on one side of Universal Studios near the Minions ride. The concerts take place at 8:30PM but they open the grounds around 6:00PM and you can snag your spot on the faux-grassy lawn.About an hour before the concert someone stands up, and then everyone stands up. And if you want to actually see the concert, you have to remain standing the rest of the evening.Around 8:00PM these two entertainers came out to get everyone psyched-up.And then at 8:32PM, there he was, the headliner…..DJ Kaskade (USA)After the sun set last night it got chilly quickly and Kaskade was dressed in a hoody.Like all cool guys, Kaskade is now sporting a mustache.Of course he played a number of songs from his large catalogue of dance hits over the 90-minute set including “On Your MInd”, “Disarm You” and “Atmosphere”. He also played his current hit, a collaboration with CID (USA) and Anabel Englund (USA), titled “Vision Blurred”. But he also played a lot of non-Kaskade songs, usually in 2-minute snippets. Some of them included “Around The World”, “Somebody That I Used To Know” and “Runaway (U & I) although the latter was his Kaskade remix. We last saw Kaskade live when he played on the kineticFIELD main stage at EDC-Orlando back in 2022. We missed his EDC set in 2024 when he played a back-to-back set with Alison Wonderland (AUS). Since it appears he plays EDC-Orlando every other year, perhaps he will be back again this coming November. We won’t know until the lineup is released in June. Advance tickets HERE.Universal concerts are for all ages and we saw lots of kids. Kaskade even remarked that if your parents brought you here, you’ve got really cool parents. The concert grounds were completely jammed. The graphics package was pretty good and of course there were lasers. There was fire and smoke. There was confetti. Towards the end, a cool mashup of “Midnight Train”, “Levels” and “Don’t Stop Believin'”.A great concert last night and a good time was had by all.
