Club Reports: Lana Dance Party @ The Beacham, Arena Art Bar, Barbarella

What the heck is going on with The Beacham on Friday nights? It used to be purely Hip Hop but two weeks ago they had a Taylor Swift (USA) sing-along and then last night…..
…..a Lana Del Rey (USA) sing-along!
We walked into THIS!
This was the DJ who was playing all the Lana hits along with her music videos.
This is the real Lana Del Rey when we saw her in concert at Hard Rock Live ten years ago this April.
Surprisingly, the crowd was about twice the size of what we saw here for the Taylor Swift sing-along.
Like that concert, it was about 90% female.
And everyone knew the words!
What’s going on with The Beacham on Friday nights? Saturday nights are still mostly Hip Hop ft. DJ Richie Rich (USA) and Sundays are still Latin. But Fridays are now “anything goes” and things vary week-to-week. We’re looking forward to this “United We Dance” party on March 1st with advance tickets just $10 (plus tax, tag & title) here.
Next stop was new venue The Arena Art Bar, located where Suite B Lounge/Peek Downtown used to be.
We walked into THIS. Every time we drop by it’s like visiting a long lost friend! That long bar is still there…..
Those pillars are still there…..
Those lighted wall cut-outs are still there. In the corner, Sammy Elgendy’s old office is still there!
The booth is now in the corner and last night DJ RoZay2Fwe (USA) was there providing the tunes.
The club has not just one but two shiny disco balls so you know it’s legit. This place would be perfect for a Suite B Lounge Reunion so stay tuned!
The music last night during our visit was a mix of Funk, Soul and light Afro-House.
Good crowd on hand. If you’re downtown stop by Arena Art Bar to refresh your memories and make some new ones. We think a lot of good things will be happening here and they’re just getting started.
We’re coming up on 2 years since Barbarella vacated their downtown locale for a warehouse out in an suburban Industrial park. They’re generally only open on Saturday nights for 80’s New Wave and Alternative but on the 2nd Friday night of each month they also open their doors for “Memento Mori”, their Goth and Industrial night.
Arriving after midnight, we walked into THIS.
Resident DJ Lavidicus (USA) was in the booth delivering the dark stuff.
It’s a mix of Dark Wave, Synthpop, EBM, Goth…..
…..but we just call it Industrial. (It is, afterall, in an Industrial park!)
Lavidicus has been leading “Memento Mori” night at Barbarella/Independent Bar for years.
Of course, resident Lighting & Sound Tech Ernie Plowden was here too.
Spotted in VIP: Resident DJ Rob Bates (USA) with Alison.
Everywhere we went last night, a good time was had by all.
