When we walked into Wall Street Plaza last night, Country music was being played everywhere. WTF! Fortunately, there is an island oasis above the twang, Monkey Bar.Even though it was early, the inside bar was already active.They have an outdoor bar too on the balcony overlooking Wall Street.Resident DJ Dity (USA) was in the booth playing some of that good stuff…..House!He was going b2b all evening with DJ Spock Ninja (USA).A beer pong table has been added since our last visit.We had most recently seen Spock Ninja play at The Vanguard where he opened for DJ Ben Nicky (GB). He is seen here on the Monkey Bar dance floor with DJ Jane.Doe (USA).New club Proper still doesn’t have a sign so we rely on this floor mat to locate the entrance!Right at the entrance, the front bar.With a hint of September coolness in the air, the front overhead door was open last night.Most of the action was happening at the rear bar.Damn, talk about “top shelf” liquor!In the booth, DJ Shmu (USA) playing Disco.The music requirement at Proper is that the DJ’s play off vinyl. The club comes with a large selection of records to choose from but DJ’s usually bring their own crates, old school style.“Love Sensation” (1980)There’s no dress code at Proper so the Guys are typically in jeans and the Ladies know how to do it right!Located just off Orange Avenue in SODO, a first visit to Rockpit Brewing.Where we walked into this!DJ CruDawg (USA) was just finishing his set when we arrived and Breaks were the order of the evening.Large crowd in the club but they kept hanging back with just a few brave enough to come forward.Rockpit Brewing has a large bar area staffed with colorful bartenders.And as their name would suggest, they brew their own beer!Just before coming on to play, spotted here with Brittany, Miami-based…..DJ Robotic (USA)Dance floor got jammed for “Set U Free“! (1995)That look you get from great Breaks!Going b2b with this other Miami-based DJ…..DJ Soltek (USA)And the dance floor would stay jammed!Having played before we arrived, DJ Berto (USA) with Katey.Also having played before we arrived, DJ Phin (USA) spotted here with DJ Gamma (USA).We ran into so many peeps from the scene; some we knew and some we didn’t but do now!Lots of vocal Breaks songs in his selections!In fact, the music was so good that at one point one of the bartendresses abandoned her post and got on the dance floor!It was suddenly 1AM and these two were up next!DJ Solstice (USA)And DJ Spark-D (USA).Rockpit Brewing is a great venue. It’s spacious, it’s clean and they make their own beer! We hope to see some more events in here in the coming months. A good time was definitely had by all.
