Copper Rocket Pub in north suburban Maitland has been operating in this spot for more than two decades now and it was our first stop last night.But once inside, our destination was not the restaurant/bar itself but this additional entry door to our right. Our destination was Permanent Vacation.Where we walked into this!When they first opened a few years ago an entry reservation to this tiki bar was a hot commodity and difficult to obtain. That’s no longer the case; we were able to snag a reservation a couple days prior to our visit. Nonetheless, all the tables last night were full and only a handful of bar spots remained. Advance reservations HERE.At Permanent Vacation, it’s all about the south seas-themed drinks and the light & sound show that comes with each drink.I was in the mood for the slurpee-style “Coconut Grove” drink. Mmmm.Some of my drinking buddies. We’re not going to show any of the other decorations and theming because you need to experience this place for yourself. A good time was had by all.We next headed into DTO to visit AC Sky Bar located within the A.C. Hotel by Marriott.We took a lift to the 18th floor. When you exit the elevators and turn right, you find the Reception desk for the hotel.And to the left, this lobby bar which was doing brisk business last night. We’re told they have a DJ playing here on Friday nights but unfortunately that ends at 10PM. We’ll need to recheck on that sometime.Out on the balcony is their outside bar overlooking the city below.AC Sky Bar is all about the views including this spectacular one of KIA Center on the opposite side of I-4. Skylounge atop Kia Center can be seen over there but it appears to be dark and out-of-business. Even though it was only on the 6th floor, it actually offered a better view because it faced the city skyline whereas AC Skybar faces away from the skyline.At AC Skybar though, what could be more-romantic for a first date than this intersection of I-4 and TOLL SR 408!As long as we were downtown, our next stop was one of our favorites, Aero Bar.We climbed the stairs to this rooftop venue and walked into this.Over in the booth, resident DJ Dominick Morrison (USA).DJ was playing a lot of Riddim and Dubstep during our visit. When the beat drops, it can become infectious.The lasers were flying.“The Dom” is getting married on September 26th and he’s taking the night off. In his place, DJ Richie Rich (USA) will be playing all House here that night “with a sprinkling of Dubstep”, he says. Congratulations, Dominick! Everywhere we went last night, a good time was had by all.
