Concert Report: Labor Day Bash (House Of Blues)

Orlando Entertainment News was out at Disney Springs last night for the annual “Labor Day Bash” event at House of Blues. We saw so many of you there but before we begin the club pics we thought you should know a little bit more about Disney Springs.
This is historically a former railroad town and this plaque along Hill Street commemorates that history.
Located on the famous springs of Disney Springs, the Sunshine Rail Line used to bring winter tourists by the hundreds to the sleepy town.
The tracks are long gone but trains used to arrive via the “High Line” trestles that ran through Disney Springs West Side, many of which remain standing.
The former train station remains too but it has been repurposed as a bathroom complex.
While the tracks were long-ago removed, remnants of the former locomotive turntable can still be seen embedded in the ground.
Crossing over the No.5 Bridge onto the West Side, we arrived at House of Blues where last night’s show was to begin at 7PM.
Twas’ the night before Labor Day and all through the House (of Blues), not a creature was stirring…..
…..just Jimmy’s spouse!
When we say Jimmy we mean the legendary DJ Jimmy Joslin (USA).
Lots of Old Skool Breaks in his set.
Breaks remix of old Duran Duran (GB) classic, “Save A Prayer”.
The club doors opened on-time.
And the dance floor went from this at 7:05PM.
To this at 7:10PM.
To this at 7:20PM.
To this at 7:30PM!
At 8PM it was time for a back-to-back set for the coming hour.
Up first was another legend, DJ Tony Faline (USA).
Lots of Classic Dance in his set.
If you didn’t already have a spot on that dance floor, don’t think you were getting one!
The crowd was lit and it was still early.
Joined in the booth by his son, wearing matching AC/DC tees.
First time seeing Tony Faline since the AAHZ Reunion show in 2022. We’ve been told there won’t be an AAHZ Reunion this year; those are now history. However, there will be alternate show later in Thanksgiving weekend so stay tuned for details once they’re announced.
We ran into so many peeps from the music scene. Some were new but most we knew.

They say you can never go wrong with Go Go girls.
Well damn, they were right!
The Ice Man cometh at 9PM.
On this night of legends, DJ Icey (USA).
Early in his set, the DJ Icey remix of HUGEL (F) hit, “Movin’ To The Sun“.
Besides playing some new remixes, Icey also delivered many Breaks classics from around the turn of the century such as Kosheen (GB) “Hide U“, Liquid (GB) “Sweet Harmony” and Agnelli & Nelson (UK) “Everyday“. The crowd cheered when each of these came on!
The vibes were thick!
The lasers began firing.
The beachball bouncing for Nalin and Kane (D) classic “Beachball“.

DJ Magic Mike (USA)
The “Labor Day Bash” is an annual successor of the original weekly “Service Industry Nights” (SIN) here at House of Blues. The original DJ’s included Magic Mike, Jimmy Joslin, DJ Richie Rich (USA) and DJ Sandy (USA). Every Sunday night they would pump-out electronic dance music and anyone who worked in any service industry job got in for free. The crowds for SIN were legendary!
The lasers were getting thick!
The dance floor stayed jammed.
Last night’s set included Breaks, Miami Bass and Freestyle.
Magic Mike joined by Mrs. Magic Mike.
Ending his set with Porter Robinson (USA) early EDM hit “Language“.
And at 11PM, one last shift change.
DJ Craze (USA)
No one was leaving just yet.
Last night’s show was originally scheduled to run until 1AM but it was scaled-back to Midnight. But this was a good thing. The Breaks crowd is growing older and we want to be tucked in our beds by 1AM. And the youngest generations? They don’t even want to be out in the first place. Last night’s crowd was a good mix of all age groups.
We last saw Craze live when he played a DnB set a few years back at Okeechobee Music Festival.
Next year will be the 30th birthday for House of Blues so we hope we can return again for another Labor Day Bash!
It would be kind of cliche to say the DJ’s all brought their “A” games last night. They really did, of course, but they also brought memories and surprises with their creativity.
Last night, a good time was had by all.
