It’s Friday then, then Saturday, Sunday, what? We began our weekend at Morse Code in downtown Winter Park.We came inside to find DJ Jody Buck (USA) in the booth. His set was mostly House music.Morse Code is beautifully appointed, as you’d expect in DTWP.We ran into numerous peeps from the Orlando music scene. Some were new but most we knew.Shortly after our arrival, resident DJ Scot Marc (USA) would take over.House music all night long.Downtown Winter Park has a popular shopping and restaurant scene but they pretty-much roll-up the sidewalks after 10PM. So Morse Code is one of the few exceptions where you can find some nightlife. We next headed to downtown Orlando and to a venue we haven’t visited in awhile: McQueensWe climbed the stairs and waked into this!DJ Fun-D-Mentlz (USA) was just finishing her mostly Tech House set when we arrived. And this trio would take over moments later. We’ve seen larger crowds here previously but the dance floor was hardly empty.McQueens is famous for this gold skull selfie wall and that’s still here. The creepy decor is still here too.Outside we found DJ Fun-D-Mentlz near the entrance along with DJ Nikole (RCH/USA). The two play together next Saturday night at Lava Lounge along International Drive. We next headed over to Luna Bar.Hip Hop was playing on the ground floor so we headed up this beautiful staircase.Where we ran into this! The booth is located in the far corner and here we found DJ Pilato (USA).His set a bit on the Tech House and at times Downtempo side of dance music. Both downstairs and upstairs here at Luna have full-liquor bars.Good stuff. We ran into several peeps we know from the music scene. DJ Mathew Scot (USA) would play later in the evening.DJ Ed Abisada (USA) would take over around 11PM.And he would continue with mostly non-vocal House.Dance floor stayed busy. And a good time was had by all.The sign company only had one job to do correctly but failed. The “Sonora Tacos” sign is above the Taco Kat nightclub while the Sonora Tacos restaurant has the “Taco Cat” sign above it! You actually enter through the restaurant side where the door host or hostess opens up this soda machine to locate the hidden door into the nightclub. We walked into this!DJ Statis (USA) was in the booth when we first arrived. The Tampa-based DJ was playing House/Progressive House. The bar stayed busy during our visit. The dance floor was seeing some activity too.Around midnight, DJ Derek Fereal (USA) took control. We were told this was going to be a Progressive House set but he was playing some Trance during our visit! Someone needs to do a Trance night, guys. Not enough Trance in Orlando!Dance floor stayed busy.DJ Duke (USA) had opened the night earlier.“I’m with the DJ.” Kristin tells us that State Representative Anna Eskamani (D), who is running for Mayor of Orlando, was in the club earlier and they discussed the sad situation with downtown Orlando. Eskamani, if elected, plans to try to remedy that. Taco Kat has a full liquor bar too.As did the dance floor.A good time was had by all.Thee Friday night place to be downtown, The Robinson Cocktail Room. The action takes place in the separate Disco Room. Here we found DJ Chino (USA) at the helm.He was playing EDM during our visit. The wood flooring in the main room was brought-in from Jacksonville during construction. They also have a pool table in the main room. The request line to the DJ is always open. For our younger readers, this is called a pay phone.Dino is here. Not as crowded as we typically see on Fridays but UCF students have largely gone home for the summer.A good time was had by all.The night was still young so we headed to one more club. Good Times Bar & Grill in Maitland usually hosts live Rock and Top 40 bands but on the first Friday of every month, it’s home to “Abyss” night, the darker side of music. Why do we go to so many clubs in one night? So you can stay home and watch endless loops of The Weather Channel (or The Weather Network for our Canadian readers). We switched from our camera to our iPhone at this juncture so as to not disturb the ambiance. We opened the door and walked into this!“Abyss” resident DJ Lavidicus (USA) was in the perch. The music mostly Industrial during our visit but you’ll also hear Dark Wave, Goth and Power Noise. We ran into numerous peeps we know from the Goth scene. Some were new but most we knew.Had not heard The Prodigy (GB) hit “Smack My Bitch Up” in a decade. So good.Always a great vibe at “Abyss” and everywhere we went last night, a good time was had by all.
