Broken Strings Brewery on Church Street near OBT is primarily a brewery but lately they’ve been having DJ events taking place there on certain weekend nights. When we arrived last night DJ Drizzy (USA) was in the booth playing mostly EDM and Classic Dance. But we might have heard a bit of Riddim in there too.Although it was still early, there was already a crowd on the dance floor. This is a beer and wine venue with the brews coming straight from the production vats in the rear room.Around 9:30PM, the always-plurry DJ Freaky Frank (USA) making his first-ever club performance. He was as animated as you’d expect. His mostly Breaks set included a lot of vocals that included the words “Freaky Frank” in them, lol.The lasers were flying. We ran into a bunch of people from the local music scene. Some were new but most we knew.Through the haze we could see the dance floor was staying active.DJ Swagkerr (USA) coming on after 10:30PM.He would play more Breaks. We next headed over to Oliv Bar, located on Magnolia about a block north of Colonial. We walked into this.DJ Left Ear (USA) was on the decks when we first arrived.First time seeing him play. We told him that whenever we think we’ve met every DJ in town, we meet five more!He had the dance floor bouncing. His selections, which were mostly non-vocal, were definitely on the House side but we had to ask about another genre he was playing that we couldn’t identify. We were told he was playing UK Breaks. Dance floor stayed busy the whole time we were there.Spotted at the bar: DJ Ms. MF (USA) who had played earlier. She tells us she played a set that ranged from Minimal Techno at the beginning to Breaks at the end. Sorry we missed it!Spotted bartending: DJ Miraxy (USA). Miraxy tells us that beginning next Saturday night, January 17th, there will be a weekly event here at Oliv Bar that features DJ’s playing Afrobeats, House and 140bpm selections. We will definitely be checking it out.So come check out Oliv Bar, the little club with the big club inside!Next stop was Wall Street Plaza where Waitiki on the ground floor is now called Wall St. Warped Pour. Might just be a temporary name; we’re not sure. They have a Top 40 music track playing in the background but no DJ’s here anymore. But if you go all the way back and search-out the hidden staircase, you’ll find the best venue in the entire Wall Street Plaza complex: Monkey Bar.We climbed the stairs and walked into this. Here we found DJ Edde Enand (USA) in the booth.House music all night long.He had the dance floor packed.First time seeing him play too. They have two bars at Monkey Bar so drinks are never far away. There’s this inside bar.And it wraps around to this outdoor bar on the balcony. We’ll be following the Progressions brand for more of their events. One final stop nearby at Fixtion. The headliner was already on when we walked inside to this!DJ Susan (USA)His set was heavy on the EDM side of House music.Club was packed.House remixes of songs like “Toxic”, “Gonna Die Young” and “Diet Coke” had the floor bouncing. “Don’t Stop (Get It Get It)”, “Perculator” and “Around The World”.We ran into so many people from the local music scene. Some were new but most we knew.We last saw DJ Susan when he played at Sunset Music Festival in Tampa back in 2023.As expected, he was SO animated last night! His sets are always like this but even more so when he was up close and personal with the crowd. If you attend a House event and you spot Amelia at the front, you know you’re in the right place.Although she was not listed on the playbill last night, we spotted DJ Kaleena Zanders (USA) in the booth as she walked up to the decks at 1:45AM and again at 2:00AM to play. But nope, DJ Susan was having such a fun time that he wasn’t relinquishing the controls, lol. We always enjoy her sets too because she live sings many of the vocals in the songs she plays. We last saw her perform at Breakaway Music Festivallast April.Everywhere we went last night, a good time was had by all.
