Downtown Update: Post-Hurricane Report

Hurricane Milton moved through Orlando overnight before heading out into the Atlantic early this morning. We went to beautiful downtown Orlando this evening to check for any widespread damage.
But it was pretty much business as usual. Nearly all restaurants were open for business.
Wall Street Plaza wasn’t open yet but the presence of employees in the various windows was an indication their venues would be opening later.
Not sure about The Block group of bars and clubs; their website did not say if they were opening tonight one way or another. The DJ concert we were going to at The Beacham was postponed but that was because the DJ duo couldn’t fly into Orlando, not because of any venue logistics.
The new hurricane-proof roof above the DJ booth at Elixir did it’s job successfully.
As far as visible damage goes, we saw a picture posted this morning of the horizontal arm that snapped off that vertical pole along Orange Avenue at Church Street. It contained traffic signals for that intersection as well as the lighted “Church Street” road sign.
This tree, also along Church Street, had snapped.
And this sabal palm flipped out of the ground. But that was about it. Didn’t see any broken glass or boarded windows anywhere. Orlando dodged a bullet last night for sure; perhaps it just grazed our ear.
