Just one destination last night, long-time Blog favorite Barbarella.^ What brought us out specifically last night was the above-captioned post on Facebook by Barbarella. We needed to find out what was going on!We arrived rather early but everything seemed normal. The dance floor was filling-up.Just as it should be on a Saturday night, DJ Indie John (USA) was in the booth playing 80’s New Wave.While Lighting/Sound Tech Ernie delivered the great quality we expect at Barbarella.The music videos were playing.So wtf is going on? We’re told Barbarella‘s last night at this location (is still pending). The new location remains a top secret and it will open shortly after the current location closes but no exact date yet. Obviously, there’s a lot to be moved.Sources say that a couple weeks ago police allegedly arrived at Barbarella and searched the place. Someone had apparently filed a complaint about illegal alcohol sales here, we’re told. But that isn’t true. They have a beer & wine license and are allowed to also sell low-proof liquor just like you find in convenience stores. All the documentation checked-out and the police supposedly left empty handed. We’ve submitted a FOIA request to the Orlando Police Department for a copy of the incident report.We’re told Barbarella subsequently received notice that they can’t operate a nightclub in a place not zoned for it so that is why they’re having to move elsewhere. They’ve been in this location since April 2022 and are just now being told they can’t. We’ve been going to Barbarella and predecessor Independent Bar since Pleasure Island closed in September 2008 so we will follow them anywhere. So will this crowd. We’ll keep you updated. UPDATE: In response to our FOIA request, the City of Orlando claims it is unable to locate any reports from the month of July, 2024 at the Barbarella address. They claim there was only one incident there and no report was written.
