Since it’s mid-January, I was reminiscing this weekend about one of the most incredible concerts in the world that I’ve been able to cover: Igloofest Montreal. Taking place annually over several weekends in January and early-February, it’s a DJ concert series taking place outdoors in the dead winter of Canada!Who in their right mind would attend an outdoor concert at night during a Canadian winter?It actually stays kind of warm due to body heat when you’re within the crowd. It’s when you move away from it that you really feel how cold it is! Temps during my visits have ranged from 5° to 10°F (-12° to -15°C).Snowsuit onesies and fur coats help!It’s an amazing experience! Unfortunately they had to cancel it in 2020 due to beginning of Covid-19 and in 2021 it will only operate virtually. LINK Hopefully in 2022 it can return.In 2016 we got to see DJ Al Ester (USA) on the main stage who performed with DJ Carl Craig (USA).In 2017, DJ Carl Cox (GB) delivered the Techno.On an especially cold night in 2018, DJ duo Sasha & Digweed (GB) headlined.Then in 2019, Above & Beyond (GB).You could always count on the Abominable Snowman to appear at Igloofest. Oui. Who in their right mind would attend an outdoor concert at night during a Canadian winter? MONTREAL, that’s who!
