Depending on how you count, Orlando’s storied nightclub Barbarella <\/em>is now in either its 3rd or 4th iteration. And as we begin a new year, let’s quickly look back them. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Their original location was downtown along Orange Avenue at Washington Street. We think they opened as Beach Club<\/em> before becoming Barbarella <\/em>and then spent most years as Independent Bar<\/em>. When Pleasure Island <\/em>closed and we came downtown in search of nightlife (and we began this Blog), someone introduced me to I-Bar<\/em> and we’ve been coming ever since. A couple years before moving they reintroduced the Barbarella <\/em>name.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

And this is when we first met the owner and DJ Indie John (USA) working out of the 2nd Floor perch.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
So many memories in this room!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
With the foresight that downtown Orlando was heading towards doom, Barbarella <\/em>relocated in April, 2022 to a warehouse district off John Young Parkway. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Now only open on Saturday nights, you’d always find Indie John in the perch.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
They cordoned-off a section of a pickle ball facility and created a dance club once per week. People always clamored for the days of “underground warehouse parties” and boy, this was definitely it.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
But the City <\/em>supposedly told ownership that one can’t operate a nightclub in an area not zoned for it so they were forced to move again. And in September, 2024 they reopened inside The Axe Trap<\/em> on Lee Road just east of I-4. They celebrated their 40th anniversary in 2025. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Arriving last night around 10PM, we walked into this.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
And just as it should be on a Saturday night, DJ Indie John in the perch.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
And just as it’s always been, the music mostly 80’s New Wave and Alternative.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
And just as its always been, many songs accompanied by music videos and many of those packaged by Orlando-based Promo Only<\/em>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Orlando Entertainment News <\/em>counts this as Barbarella 3.0<\/em> but you could say Barbarella 4.0<\/em>. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

It was great to see so many people we knew to kick-off this new year!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n
