This is the Buffalo Convention Center<\/em> in beautiful downtown Buffalo in the state of New York.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

And on the last Saturday of November every year, home to one of the most fantastic spectacles: The<\/em> World’s Largest Disco<\/em>.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Entry for GA tickets begins at 10PM but VIP begins at 9PM and gets you into the downstairs pre-party. In this room, you’re greeted by all this 1970’s style furniture.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
There are numerous food stations included with VIP tickets.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Including pizza…..<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
And a part of Buffalo culture, shaved beef with salted weck rolls!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
The band “Disco Unlimited” (USA) was playing when we first arrived.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
With Disco classics such as “Boogie Wonderland”, “Shake Your Groove Thang” & “Don’t Leave Me This Way”.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
When the band wasn’t playing, DJ Roger Christian (USA) from radio station WECK AM1230 Buffalo played more songs such as “Dance and Shout”, “The Hustle” and “Oh What A Night”.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
They have this amazing lighted Lucite <\/em>dance floor in here.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
VIP of course costs more but all the money is going to charity.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
70’s Fashion was in abundance, of course. The dresses…..<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
The shirts.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
The platforms.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
The….the….Afros.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
The workout outfits including leg warmers.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
And then, there he was!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Deney Terrio (USA) from the famed 70’s disco television show “Dance Fever”.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
He did some spinning with several of the ladies nearby.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Kathy Sledge of 70’s band “Sister Sledge” came on next. Keep in mind this is still at the VIP pre-party.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
She sang two numbers, “He’s The Greatest Dancer” and a long version of classic “We Are Family”.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
The crowd was invited up to the stage.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
The place was absolutely packed!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
We suddenly realized it was way after 10PM so we headed upstairs to the main floor of the convention center and arrived to find this!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
The walls are adorned with photos from 70’s television series.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Lots of memories here!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
And Tim Horton played for the Buffalo Sabres! Who knew?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
World’s Largest Disco<\/em> is a charity event benefiting Camp Good Days and Special Times<\/a><\/em>, a camp for children with cancer and several other local cancer-related charities in the Buffalo area. Most of the people working the event every year are volunteers.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Capacity is limited to 7,000.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
We heard songs such as “Ring My Bell”, “Brick House” and “Ladies Night”.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Security throughout the convention center floor is up on raised platforms. That’s SO New York!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
And OMG, up in the booth delivering the tunes was none other than DJ Nicholas Picholas (USA) from KissFM 98.5, WKSE<\/em> Buffalo. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
This is his first time DJ’ing the WLD<\/em> and you could tell he was excited about it.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
We haven’t seen him since he did a remote radio show at Dragonfly Nightclub<\/em> in Niagara Falls, Ontario back in 2011. He is seen here with Orlando’s DJ Smooth (USA). It was a memorable night because at one point he handed me the mic with no warning and said “Talk” and on-the-air I said something like “Hey Niagara Frontier, you need to be at Dragonfly Nightclub<\/em> every Friday night”. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

More 70’s classics such as “Rock With You”, “Rappers Delight” and “Car Wash”.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
An amazing spectacle!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Lots of 70’s attire but not as many costumes as some prior years.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
“Dancing Queen” and “I Will Survive”.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
I see this guy at WLD <\/em>every year!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
And this guy was having too much fun!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
“Give It To Me Baby”, “Jive Talking” and “Le Freak”.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Dave Pietrowski is the originator of World’s Largest Disco<\/em> and he came out to thank the crowd for their generous support over the years.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
And there was Deney Terrio again, this time on the main stage.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
He was joined by this year’s Guest Celebrities. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
A dance and song medley from hit film “Grease” was next.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Everyone was in a great mood! You can’t help but be when Disco is being played!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Shiny Disco Balls were in abundance. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Close to midnight and no one was leaving just yet!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Then exactly at midnight, nothing says 70’s Disco like singing “YMCA” with 6,999 of your closest friends.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Followed shortly thereafter by a Neil Diamond singalong to “Sweet Caroline”. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
“Too Much Heaven”, “Super Freak” and “Let’s Groove Tonight”.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Tickets for the Worlds Largest Disco <\/em>sell out quickly so if you’re interested in attending next year, be sure to get on the email list here<\/a>. The 2025 show will be on Saturday, November 29th.
