As you would have seen in our Sunday article reporting on Saturday night, High Tide<\/em> has opened. It replaces Latitudes <\/em>on the rooftop above Chillers <\/em>and Cahoots<\/em>, on Church Street. The pastel paints give it more of a Caribbean vibe and every board that makes up the flooring and overhangs were replaced during the project that took more than a year to complete. As you would have seen in our Saturday article reporting on Friday night, Parlay <\/em>has opened. It replaces Finnhenry’s<\/em> following an extensive renovation. With more than two dozen television monitors, it’s an upscale sports bar but with DJ music. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

As we previously published, the entire south half of Wall St. Plaza<\/em> (except for The Other Bar<\/em>) was purchased by the ownership of Gilt Concert Venue<\/em> and that includes the Orange Avenue-facing former Sideshow<\/em>. We’ve seen the new name; it will be called Fixtion<\/em>. We have scant details on the project but we’ve peeked inside the windows and renovations still have a long way to go.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Back on Church Street, Cucina Pizza & Bar<\/em> has opened across from the 55 West<\/em> complex and it includes an outdoor seating area in the courtyard. Even near 1:30AM as shown above, they were doing a brisk business this past Saturday night with a line at the door. At that hour downtown there aren’t a lot of dining options besides snack carts and food trucks so this is a welcome new addition. A nightclub called Touch<\/a> used to operate in this space a decade ago.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Over on Pine Street, the new Violet Rose <\/em>appears to have closed but we’re not sure. It’s still sitting there, but dark. It had opened earlier this year featuring live bands but then they switched to karaoke nights and drag shows. It’s been dark for months. It had been beautifully renovated too. Most people know the spot as Blue Room<\/em> back in the 90’s but subsequent to that its been Red Velvet, Blue Room<\/em> (again) followed by Voyage<\/a>, Deja Vu Ultra Lounge<\/a>, Zen Exotic Lounge<\/a>, Liquid<\/a><\/em> <\/a>and Club Ice<\/em><\/a>. It’s a bad luck spot but we’re hoping the closure is just temporary and we’ll keep you updated.
