Back before this venerable downtown venue was Independent Bar<\/em>, it was called Barbarella<\/em>. Earlier this year to shake things up, it returned to its prior name. And last night it was time for a Barbarella Reunion<\/em> event! <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The surprise opener was DJ Icey (USA) but I only caught the final minute of his set. He had just flown in from Oklahoma City where he had played Friday night.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Even around 10:30PM, the dance floor was already jamming.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
DJ Indie John (USA) on the right took over next, joined here in this picture by DJ Smilin’ Dan (USA) who would play later.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
My first visit to I-Bar<\/em> was not until 2009 after Pleasure Island<\/em> closed so I asked a number of people who knew the original Barbarella <\/em>what the difference was. No one could really describe a difference.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
So last night’s typical Saturday night format of 80’s New Wave was pretty much what we heard. And that was great!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
Indie John is the Saturday night early shift resident DJ here at Barbarella<\/em>. He is seen here with resident Lighting Tech Ernie.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

80’s New Wave always brings out the peeps.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Next up in the perch, DJ Rob Bates (USA).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

He’s always a popular DJ here because he not only plays some of the well-known hits of that era but also some of the more obscure Alternative songs from back then too.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
He had the dance floor packed!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
\"\"
He even had a couple early House music songs mixed in. “Best set evah!”<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

It was getting late but the dance floor stayed busy.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Always a great vibe here because everybody loves the 80’s!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

It was great to see Smilin’ Dan back in the perch for the Reunion!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
