Concert Report: Devotion 2020 (Ace Cafe)

In recent history this historic building was the H2O Church and country bar :08 Seconds. But in Orlando’s early electronic music history, it was The Edge! So last night we weren’t at Ace Cafe at all, we were all back at The Edge!
For the 2020 edition of award-winning Devotion!
The event began at 6pm but I wasn’t able to get there until just after 8pm. In the main room we found DJ duo Bobby Buzz & James Wolfe (USA).
The early crowd was building.
There were 3 areas of music. In the club’s “Progressive Room”, DJ Chang (USA) was playing an amazing Old School set in the fog. We know Chang mostly from our days back at Simon’s in downtown Gainesville.
The crowd was building in here too.
While outside on the patio, the air was clearer and DJ Davie-D (USA) was delivering more Old School classics!
The crowd was building out here too.
We know Davie-D mostly from his Davie’s Angels shows at Suite B Lounge back in 2011.
Back inside, Single Cell Orchestra (USA) had taken over.
The dance floor was becoming more populated.
The lasers were flying!
Old school all night!
I had several people tell me they came out just to see this guy play!
In the back room, DJ Chris Domingo (USA) had taken control.
For underground, this was the place to be!
While the patio was the place to be for fresh air and fresh beats! DJ 43 (USA).
The crowd continued to build!
And there was dancing all over the place!
On the main stage, DJ Mike Nice (USA).
The bravest were finally moving forward towards the stage, lol.
And it was getting hard to move about the place.
A live electronic set from Mariner (USA) in the Progressive Room. (Editor Note: The room is named for the music, not for the insurance company.)
They had everyone bouncing!
Rear view (literally and figuratively).
First time for me seeing them.
Had to come back outside again to see DJ Dave London (GB/USA).
On this night dedicated to Old School Dance!
Everyone was having a great time!
DJ duo Storm & Johnny Dangerously (USA) in the main room!
Packed to the rafters!
Only 11pm and people were still coming in!
Storm and Johnny Dangerously had closed-out the patio at Devotion 2019 last year and were so popular that they played the main stage this year!
Ace Cafe is actually a surprisingly good restaurant during the day and early evening. I recommend the wings! There is a SunRail station right across the street so during the week you can come here via train.
The visuals were top notch!
Continuing my tour, checking out DJ Joe C. (USA).
The back room never got super-crowded but there were always dancers back here.
Outside, another classic set from DJ Rainbow Bridge (USA).
First time for me!
DJ Sandra Cruz (USA) posing later with Rainbow Bridge.
DJ Celestial (USA) posing later with Rainbow Bridge.
The “Head” of Future Sound of Breaks, Glyn S. Morgan, talking to the crowd at midnight. He introduced…..
…..one of the great vocalists of his day, Sam Mollison (GB).
He would perform an amazing 15-minute vocal set to the enthusiastic crowd.
Before the biggest headliner of the evening came on, DJ George Acosta (USA).
Opening with Planet Soul – Set U Free.
Dance floor was jammed!
He had everyone bouncing!
Another legend in the back room, DJ Andy Hughes (USA).
Playing a vinyl set!
In the fog!
While catching the final few minutes of a set from DJ Stylus (USA).
And then a live music set from electronic music pioneers Prophecy (USA).
With DJ Afrodisiax (USA) and DJ Losman (USA) in the booth.
It was packed on the patio for this!
There was a House of Blues Sunday night SIN “bust-a-move” going on!
Back inside, first time seeing George Acosta in Orlando since his Art Car set at EDC-Orlando in 2018. Link.
He was animated all night and it’s always great to see him play!
As his set ended, a live electronic set from Dynamix II (USA).
1:30am and no one was leaving!
Scratch-D
Todd Walker
They would close-out the main stage.
Just an amazing night every bit as good as Devotion 2019!
Original 90’s old school kandy bracelets.
Closing out the Progressive Room, DJ Scott Riley (USA).
While at the patio, an Edge closing set from DJ Sandy (USA).
Still jammed out here too!
Let’s do this again soon!
A good time was had by all.
