Great Southern Box Company Food Hall (or SOBOX for short) is located near the intersection of OBT and Princeton Street in Orlando’s Packing District. It’s pays homage to the citrus packers that used to load boxes of fruit onto northbound freight trains from this area of town back in the 1930’s.And yesterday morning and afternoon it played host to the Daylite house music party. After clearing the ID check and security check, we were greeted by lovely Door Hostesses Jasmine and Jamie who carefully scrutinized our tickets to make sure they were legit. There were three areas of music yesterday including one right here in the Food Hall room where we entered the complex. We found DJ Nuans (USA) in the booth for the opening 10AM shift. His set was a mix of House and Caribbean House. As the winner of Insomniac‘s “Discovery Project” in 2024, DJ Nuans opened on the kineticFIELD main stage at EDC-Orlando that year. The second area of music yesterday was inside Walter’s Tavern. This is normally a sports bar on the west side of the large building. The 10AM set was still in-progress here for DJ Lauro (USA) and DJ Dexter (USA).All the sets yesterday from every DJ was a mix of House, Tech House, EDM, Latin House and/or Caribbean House.Back in the Food Hall at 11:30AM, DJ Ferny (RCH/USA) had taken over.More of the good stuff! We hadn’t seen Ferny since this past June when she played at Palm Tree Club.As Noon approached, we began to see some dance floor activity during her set. While back in the Tavern, DJ Terry G (USA).First time seeing him play.A few people were on the dance floor but mostly chit-chat and not dancing. At Noon, the third area of music finally opened in the cleverly-named Main Room. The other two music rooms were all-ages but this one was 18+.There was already a crowd growing in here! For DJ Angel Fernandez (USA).Great, mostly House set.We last saw Angel Fernandez play back in April, also at Palm Tree Club.Dance floor was getting jammed. That shiny disco ball was up there so you knew this place was legit!Spotted in the Tech Booth: DJ Alfred Michael (USA).Shift change time in the Food Hall. Taking over the controls, DJ Dos Santos (USA).He would continue with that House/EDM vibe. There are about a dozen food choices in the SOBOX food hall ranging from Mexican to Moroccan to Japanese to Thai, all centered around a large bar. Plus dessert options too. Being a meat and potatoes kind of person, I settled for the Brazilian style steak with batatas fritas. Delicious.Dance floor activity began picking-up as more people arrived. We haven’t seen Dos Santos since 2024 when he played a House set at Monkey Bar in DTO.LOLWe ran into so many peeps! Most we knew but some were new.Docs for the win!At 12:30PM in Walters’s Tavern, St. Petersburg-based DJ Awakening (USA) was now in the booth.First time seeing him play. The bar was much busier too. We’ve taken several cruises in the past so we’re kind of experienced with day drinking!DJ had grown a crowd! At 1:30PM, always great to run into DJ Chymera (USA).We know him from clubs such as London House and The Robinson.Dance floor activity in the Tavern. At 1:30PM a new DJ had taken over in the Food Hall too.DJ Erick Sierra (USA)Couldn’t find in the Blog archives having seen him previously. His set was so good, he even had Jesus (PS) dancing.Back in the Main Room, caught the end of a set from DJ Just James (USA) and DJ Bobby J. (USA).We’ve seen Just James several times over the years. But first time seeing Bobby J.Dance floor had gotten crowded during their set,Between the sound and the lighting, the vibe had gotten thick in here.Shortly after arriving, DJ duo Yokai (USA) took over the main stage. They would play a mostly-EDM dance set. They say you can never go wrong with Go Go girls,Well damn, they were right!Yokai opened the kineticFIELD main stage at EDC-Orlando in 2022. They play at all the main clubs in Orlando as well as at various music festivals. They had the club bouncing. Unfortunately, we needed to depart at this juncture to head home to get ready for Halloween. Yesterday’s Daylite show would run until 6PM and a good time was had by all.Back out Saturday night after the trick-or-treating ended, we went to Universal CityWalk. Our first stop was the Rooftop Terrace atop Hard Rock Live. As you can see, this is only open on Friday & Saturday nights from 8PM to 11PM.We climbed the stairs and walked into this.Delivering the goods, DJ Lex (USA).The music was mostly Top 40. We first met DJ Lex at a 70’s Disco night at Wills Pub back in early 2024 and subsequently last year at Disney Springs West Side where the stunning DJ hosted weekly “Springs In Motion” family dance parties.Sadly, this venue is poorly advertised and not many know about it. The view of CityWalk is spectacular from the terrace. There’s a full-liquor bar up here.Besides the music, the big attraction here is the famous John Lennon Room.Full of John Lennon (GB) memorabilia. And this piano is a must-see.Each piano key is signed by a famous pianist. We spotted Billy Joel (USA), Elton John (GB), Stevie Wonder (USA) and Barry Manilow (USA) among the dozens.Always great to see DJ Lex!Unlike Disney, Universal still has a nightclub district called the CityWalk Promenade and it includes a karaoke club, dueling pianos club, reggae club and a Top 40 club. While passing through the Promenade, we saw small groups dancing. We looked-up to the balcony above Pat O’Briens and spotted DJ Michael Wycoff (USA).We first met Michael Wycoff at the pre-pandemic “Late Night Disney Springs” events and more-recently at places such as Atlantic Dance Hall and Red Coconut Club. The crowd down there was growing. And when we got back down on the ground, we had to participate in the “Cha Cha Slide” line dance! Our ultimate destination though was Red Coconut Club which was reimagined for Halloween Horror Nights as the Dead Coconut Club.We walked into this. And the dance floor looked like this!In the Autumn-themed booth, DJ Trini D (TT/USA).Playing mostly older Top 40 during our visit. He had the dance floor absolutely mobbed!A good time was had by all. Tonight is the final night for Dead Coconut Club so if you want to experience it, tonight is your last chance. Afterwards, they will close for a few weeks while the Halloween/Harvest theming is removed. And on Friday, November 20th, they will reopen as the “Haus Noel” themed Green & Red Coconut Club. OEN will have full coverage.
