Club Reports: Rodeo, Rivals Activity Bar, Pretty Please, Arena Art Bar, Hammered Lamb, Barbarella 3.0 By King Bob in Club Reports October 6, 2024 After several weekends covering clubs in the northern suburbs, Mills/50, International Drive and Walt Disney World, it was great to begin our evening back in DTO. We started with a brief visit to new club Rodeo All-American Bar. This is not our first Rodeo (visit). We had visited once before. This venue was previously Hooch and Globe before that but other than the name change and a switch to Country music, not a whole lot was done with the room. The DJ booth is all the way in the back but whoever was playing last night was still plugging-in his gear so a pre-recorded track was playing. Also no changes to the two portals which connect this to the club next door. Which most-recently was called Shine and Slingapours before that and is now the peculiarly-named Rivals Activity Bar. As Shine, the DJ booth was located up there in the corner and they used to get some crowds on the dance floor for Top 40 music. Now this is a game room. No music, just sports. One can see that a bare minimum of expense was paid in converting this place. The bar may have been redone; not sure. Sad to see Wall Street Plaza‘s only “real” dance club is no more. Heading down Orange Avenue, we next visited Pretty Please, another new venue which opened this past June. It’s a long, narrow venue and we walked into this. DJ Rup (USA) was in the booth when we arrived. The music format at Pretty Please is various types of House. The bar was jammed. There’s a mountain towards the rear of the club with an actual waterfall. Spotted along the wall: DJ Chino (USA) with DJ Gurl Grammar (USA). Next stop, The Arena Art Bar. It’s called an “art bar” because there’s always a fresh batch of art on the walls. Currently, a lot of Halloween-themed art. It’s all for sale too. No one was dancing during our visit but the bar was absolutely jammed. DJ Blend (USA) was in the booth during our visit. House music, of course! Arena Art Bar is one of the few places downtown where you can purchase a bag of dicks. Me taking a photo of a photographer taking a photo of me! We next departed the downtown area for uptown and The Hammered Lamb. But first we had to get past the Door Hostess and the Bouncer man. Once inside, we walked into this! Catching the tail-end of a birthday set from DJ Amber Jane (USA). With DJ Genesis (USA) taking over next. The music Breaks and Bass. DJ Genesis had the dance floor bouncing. The bar was as jammed as the dance floor. All too soon it was time for one of last night’s headliners….. DJ Mizzo (USA) The North Carolina-based DJ continued with a great Breaks set. Dance floor stayed busy. Breakers gonna break! Lots of old skool Breakbeats. Spotted on the dance floor: DJ Amber Jane flanked by Deejay Shaolin (USA) and DJ Magic Mike (USA). We ran into SO MANY peeps from the Orlando scene! Midnight arrived quickly and time for a back2back set from two more headliners. The mysterious DJ X (USA) with Deejay Shaolin. Dance floor stayed busy. Those looks you get from great Breaks! Always great to see the Breaks crowd! Time for one more! Barbarella used to be downtown. Barbarella 2.0 was in an industrial park off John Young Parkway. And now Barbarella 3.0 is in Winter Park in this building housing The Axe Trap. And you’ll only find it on Saturday nights. Spotted at the entry: DJ Indie John (USA) with Blog-favorite CJ. As we arrived after 1AM the dance floor had thinned-out a bit but it was hardly empty either. We found DJ Rob Bates (USA) in the booth. The music, every Saturday of course, 80’s New Wave and Alternative. Spotted on the dance floor: Doc John and Mark John are John². Spotted at the bar: DJ Gregory B (USA) with Emily. Spotted on the dance floor. Spotted on the dance floor. Barbarella‘s other popular format, the darker and gothier “Memento Mori” ft. DJ Lavidicus (USA), returns here on Friday, October 25th. You don’t want to miss it but be sure to wear only black! Everybody loves the 80’s! Admission to Barbarella is $10 (cheap) and they have a full liquor bar. Everywhere we went last night, a good time was had by all.
