Club Reports: Sail-Away Party, 12 Volt Bar Nassau, Señor Frog’s Nassau, White Heat Nightclub, Rock-N-Glow Deck Party (Carnival Glory) By King Bob in Club Reports August 29, 2024 By now you know that if we’re traveling we like to share entertainment choices in the various cities or ships we’re on. We’re currently sailing on cruise ship Carnival Glory doing a 4-night cruise to Bimini and Nassau in the Bahamas sailing from Port Canaveral. On Day 1 during boarding there was a DJ playing Top 40 in the ship’s atrium so we had to check it out. OMG, it was DJ Jolly (JA) who we had seen playing this past May on Carnival Radiance sailing to Mexico from Long Beach. He must of recognized me too because he jumped off the Atrium stage and gave me a hug! He says he cut-off his dreads when he was on vacation between cruise contracts of then Carnival Radiance and now Carnival Glory. Soon it was time for the tradition on all but cold-weather cruises: the Sail Away Party! Taking place on Lido Deck 9 midship, it began with Carnival Glory’s Fun Squad showing up and getting the crowd onto the dance floor. Carnival has the largest animation team at sea because it is, after all, advertised as the Fun Ship! We spotted DJ Jolly participating. Leading the action from his perch on Deck 10, DJ Mase (JA). Songs included party favorites like “Apple Bottom Jeans”, “Shots” and “In Da Club”. Dance floor packed for “Crank Dat” and “Fireball”. Packed to the rafters for requisite line dances such as “Cupid Shuffle”, The Wobble” and “Electric Slide”. Fun party and a good time was had by all. In Bimini we planned to visit our local-favorite 1-2-3-Floor but couldn’t find it. Maybe they’ve gone out of business. But we do have a couple club reports from Nassau beginning with 12 Volt Bar. Located behind the new Margaritaville Beach Resort on Bay Street, it’s the idealistic beach bar. You can’t get any closer to the beach than this! Great view of Prince George Wharf too. The perfect place to chill. During our last visit in 2022 DJ Country (BS) was atop the pool rocks playing EDM. Sadly this visit, the booth was empty. Apparently they only have DJ’s here on weekends. A bit more action was to be found at the Nassau branch of Mexican party club chain Señor Frog’s. Here we found DJ Xero (BS) playing mostly Hip Hop with a bit of Latin and Top 40 mixed in. Señor Frog’s is directly on Nassau Harbour so it gets packed with cruise passengers whom have had enough of ship food for awhile. They play drinking games here too but they’re much tamer than you find at Señor Frog’s locations in Cancun and Cozumel where pretty much anything goes. In this version the young, all-female contestants needed to see who was the fastest sucking a piña colada with a straw. Back on board, first visit to the ship’s main dance club, White Heat. It’s a large facility but its theming centers around those white candles. They’re everywhere! But they do have a large color-changing lucite dance floor. DJ Jolly was in the booth playing nearly-all Hip Hop. Large bar at one end of the club. Lots of seating surrounds the dance floor. Some brave dancers finally took to the floor. And it began to fill-up. A steady stream of revelers were coming into White Heat so we know this floor would soon get packed. Late night…..back on the Lido Deck and time for the 80’s Rock-N-Glow Party. DJ Mase was back on duty. We’ve been on several ships where the 80’s Party migrates into something else such as a Latin Night (we’re looking at you Margaritaville at Sea Paradise) or a Hip Hop night (we’re looking at you MSC Seaside) but DJ Mase kept it focused. It started small but got packed quickly! We heard 80’s Classics such as “Celebration”, “Holiday”, “Bust A Move” and “Let’s Hear It For The Boy”. The 80s’s came alive! So much YES! MC Rico (MEX) led the festivities. Can’t do a conga line without some Gloria Estefan (C/USA). Quite a bit of Michael Jackson (USA); we heard “Billy Jean”, “PYT” and “Don’t Stop ’til You Get Enough”. MC reminded us that this was a “Rock” and glow party so some Rock anthems needed to be played too. DJ played “Livin’ on a Prayer”, “I Love Rock ’n’ Roll”, “Don’t Stop Believin'” and “We Will Rock You”. The last one was 70’s, not 80’s, lol. Great party with a lot of songs not typically heard on a cruise ship. A good time was had by all.
