Club Reports: Proper, Barbarella, Iron Cow

We began our Friday night in Orlando with a third visit ever to new club Proper. They still don’t have a sign so look for the name on the entry carpet.
Arriving around 10PM, we found DJ Sweebop (USA) in the large booth playing mostly Y2K-era light Hip Hop such as Outkast (USA) “Ms. Jackson“.
At Proper, it’s all about the records. All DJ’s here play strictly off vinyl. The club has a large selection of its own but the DJ’s typically bring a crate of their own too, old skool style!
When you enter, there is a bar at the front. Proper specializes in craft cocktails.
And there is this massive bar aft.
After all that mellow, all of a sudden the DJ delivered some Depeche Mode (GB) “Enjoy The Silence” and David Bowie (GB) “Golden Years“. Nice!
The place gets pretty full pretty fast so come early!
Please note that there is an issue with construction scaffolding possibly falling so Orange Avenue and Church Street are completely blocked to both traffic and pedestrians. It is possible to access Corona Cigars as well as the clubs in the Room 22/Proper area.
This new sign facing John Young Parkway reads “Clearone Sports Centre” and tells you that have Pickleball, Badminton and Ping Pong. Not mentioned though that they also have Barbarella Nightclub!
They are open every Saturday night for 80’s New Wave and Alternative. And on the 2nd Friday of every month, resident DJ Lavidicus (USA) is in the perch for “Memento Mori”.
The music is much darker at “Memento Mori” with a mix of Dark Wave, Industrial, Synthpop and more!
Since the first weekend of September is a holiday weekend, there will be a special edition of “Memento Mori” on Sunday, September 3rd. Wear your favorite color as long as your favorite color is Black!
One more stop: Iron Cow
A highlight of many Iron Cow visits, Door Hostess Stephanie!
Arrived just in time to see DJ Souldefunk (USA) turning the controls over to DJ Lola B (USA).
House music all night long. Her set was quite lively!
Lola B’s set would only last one hour but near the end she included the appropriate-enough Shapeshifters (GB) hit “Lola’s Theme“. Talk about Y2K!
And then the headliner came on: DJ Colette (USA).
First time seeing her and we had no idea she sings some of the vocals live!
Colette is based in Chicago.
Dance floor got jammed!
Spotted on that dance floor: DJ Lee Coombs (GB/USA) with Joey. Lee Coombs will be playing at Electric Daisy Carnival – Orlando in November!
Spotted by the bar: DJ Supagroover (USA) with Bridgie. Supagroover is also playing at EDC-Orlando, doing a B2B set with DJ Matrix (USA).
Iron Cow has a shiny disco ball above the dance floor so you know the place is legit!
Don’t forget DJ James Zabiela (GB) makes a rare Orlando visit here at Iron Cow on Friday, August 25th. Blog-favorites DJ Brian Busto (USA) and DJ Freeda Sol (USA) open so get your advance tickets here.
A good time was had by all.
