Club Reports: 80’s Night, Ocean Music Fest, White Hot Glow Party (Norwegian Star) By King Bob in Club Reports January 14, 2023 This cruise on Norwegian Star was rapidly (and sadly) coming to a conclusion and it ended with 3 great onboard parties beginning with 80’s Night. DJ Vito (RP) was delivering the 80’s hits back in Bliss Lounge. We were joined by 80’s icons such as Michael Jackson, Prince and Madonna! Dance floor got packed for songs such as “Sweet Dreams”, “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” and even “Ghostbusters”. Ship guests were about 50% South American but everybody loves the 80’s! “Girls Just Want To Have Fun” A good time was had by all. As the ship moved north and moved back into warmer climes, the final two parties took place in Spice H2O, an outdoor space aft on most NCL ships. On their newer ships the venue can be huge but on Norwegian Star it was a small venue retrofitted into an area back behind the buffet restaurant. And it was home to an event unique to Norwegian Star, the Ocean Music Fest. What they do is gather all the musicians and singers from throughout the ship and put them in one place to jam together for an hour. The event is currently unique to Norwegian Star and this was only the second sailing where it was attempted! And it got packed too! Rhythm Jive (RP) was there! Along with the ship’s troubadour Andy (NZ). And Latin Velvet (BR) did a number! Upbeat songs included “Party Rock”, Hot N Cold”, “Just Dance” and “Moves Like Jagger”. All presented by the bands and singers normally performing elsewhere on the ship. The cast really appeared to enjoy this break away from their normal duties so it would not surprise me to find the event spread to other NCL ships. A good time was had by all. The final event of the cruise also took place at Spice H2O and it was labeled as the White Hot Glow Party. DJ Vito was back in the perch for this NCL tradition. Another big crowd with everyone encouraged to wear just white. Although everyone was welcome! The show opened with some Calvin Harris (GB) but was otherwise it was straight Top 40 hits such as “Dance With Somebody”, “Sexy And I Know It”, “Dancing Queen” and even “Desposito”. One last time seeing DJ Vito play. It’s been quite a cruise and sad it had to end. But when home is Orlando, Florida, USA, there are no complaints! A good time was had by all.
