103.1 Drops Country For Contemporary

Yesterday at noon, Orlando radio station WOTW “The Wolf” dropped its Country music format and switched to a Rhythmic Contemporary Hit (RCH) radio format. That format blends Pop hits, R&B hits, Hip Hop hits and EDM hits. They are opening with 10,000 commercial-free songs in a row after which they will introduce their on-air DJ staff. You can listen-in here.
Their new call letters will be WFYY and their new slogan will be “Fly 103.1“. Interestingly, they join several other radio stations already in the market with a similar format such as XL106, Mix 105.1, Magic 107.7 and Star 94.3. By dropping Country, they leave just one other station in the market for that kind of music although stations in nearby cities that can be heard in Orlando offer Country too. Not that there isn’t room in Orlando for another CHR station; you’ll recall earlier this year the former 95.3PARTY > Power95 became a Spanish-language station.
