Club Report: RAYN Pool Bar & Cafe

Well the old Why Not Lounge sign is gone, replaced with this one that reads “RAYN Pool Bar & Cafe“. But our old favorite is back in its familiar spot and it’s better than ever!
Walked into the freshly redone space and found this. While the venue is now called RAYN, every Thursday will be known as “Why Not Lounge Thursdays” with all kinds of Old Skool music from back in the day!
The long but redone bar is still in its old spot, just like it was when the Why Not Lounge was here over successive hotel names like Holiday Inn – Altamonte Springs, Howard Johnson Plaza, Clarion Hotel, Magnuson Grand and more!
At the rear, a new bar has been added next to the overhead doors that lead to…..
…..this amazing outdoor seating area by the pool.
Thursday night resident DJ Jade (USA) from Underground Sound is in charge of the music and it ranged from Classic Rock hits like Santana (USA) “Black Magic Woman” to Prince (USA) “When Doves Cry” to Lipps Inc (USA) “Funkytown”.
The dance floor stayed occupied the entire time I was there.
The dimensions of the room will look familiar to Why Not fans although the clutter of all those tables and chairs are gone, replaced with cushions along the wall where the old band stage used to stand.
Spotted by the bar: Liz joined club Host Lynn.
Of course we know DJ Jade from such venues as Ace Cafe and Peek Downtown.
The music last night 100% off vinyl!
The DJ booth constructed with concrete pillars so that the music would not knock vinyl records out of their grooves! The sound system at RAYN is impressive!
Food & Beverage Director Jeremy Miller of Opal Hotel & Suites joined DJ Jade to welcome everyone back on this very first night.
Bell bottoms went well with Gap Band (USA) 1982 Disco hit “You Dropped A Bomb On Me”.
Big NYE party here tonight (cover charge) and look for DJ Chino (USA) playing here Saturday night! But if you’re looking for that famous Old Skool flavor, Thursday night “Why Not Lounge Night” is back!!
RAYN is located in the renovated Opal Hotel & Suites on Wymore Road & I-4 (at the SR 436 exit) in Altamonte Springs. A good time was had by all.
